Marcus wanted to capture the shaping of the stem for boat numbers 63 and 64. Shows how much is involved in the process and it is a fun way of capturing it.

Steaming planks ~ how to steam the garboard planks on a sailing dinghy
Переглядів 62 тис.11 років тому
Steaming planks Fundamentally hulls shapes of any vessels are naturally curvaceous and only limited by the material properties to take on these shapes. Making plank templates
Переглядів 42 тис.11 років тому
Overview of the skill: A template is a gauge or pattern, cut out in wood, metal or other suitable material, used to help shape something accurately. Looking at a well planked wooden vessel, it does not matter whether it is a clinker or carvel construction, but all the planks will look 'right'. However, if you could peel off a single plank from the boat, the resulting shape of the plank may be a...

I though he did a good job and understood the concept entirely. In totality I applaud his video and appreciate the time he took to pass on this concept. I'll be making one of those as soon as I hit "COMMENT"

I just love the old clinker design with their lapstrake construction of these old traditional boats. They have such character and beauty about them compared to fiberglass boats and the modern boats of today. These boats will never lose their rich appeal to me, they just won't to others as well, people love them from every nation. Mainly because their all part of our history, its just that simple.
